The French Monarchy at one time was the symbol of absolutism in Europe. However, by 1770 it was beginning to lose its grip on its absolute power. From overwhelming debt to tensions between social classes France was headed towards Revolution. As often as Revolutions happen blame was pointed towards the King and after a sequence of events, he was executed in January of 1793.
